Synastry reading

Two charts held together: planets in the zodiac, numbers in relationship, no verdict.

This reading keeps two layers distinct. A tropical-zodiac biwheel places the Sun, Moon and planets for both birth dates and interprets their major angular aspects. The numerology layer gives each person five core numbers and reads all twenty-five pairings. Available for the Pythagorean, Chaldean and Hebrew calculations — the Tree-of-Life adaptation is left out because its Sephirot do not use this affinity table.

Calculation system

The modern Western standard: letters cycle 1–9 in alphabetical order. Best for everyday name and destiny readings.

Enter the local clock time and its IANA time zone. For houses, also enter the birth-city latitude and longitude in decimal degrees (south and west are negative). If time is blank, the chart uses 12:00 UTC and does not calculate houses.

The method

The astronomical and numerological layers are calculated independently and labelled so one is never presented as the other.

  • Planetary layer: apparent tropical longitudes for the Sun and Moon, plus Mercury through Pluto, calculated from each date, local birth time and historical IANA time zone. Major inter-chart aspects are interpreted by planet pair, geometry and orb. Unknown times use 12:00 UTC; houses and angles are omitted without coordinates.
  • Five points per chart: Life Path and Birthday from the birth date, Name Number, Soul Urge and Personality from the name. The two date numbers always use the standard reduction, where 11 and 22 are kept; the three name numbers follow the chosen system.
  • Twenty-five aspects: every point of the first chart against every point of the second. Each pair is classified as identical, resonant, unrelated or clashing by the same affinity table the compatibility reading uses.
  • Three composite numbers: the two raw name totals reduced together, and — as Calcabala’s own extension of that idea — the two Life Paths reduced together, plus the bridge, the distance between the two Life Paths taken by root.
  • One timing layer: each chart’s Personal Year for the year being read, its position in the nine-year cycle, and the fixed distance between the two positions.
  • The reading is symmetrical in substance but not in presentation: swapping the two people leaves every relation the same and mirrors the grid, because whose Soul Urge meets whose Personality is part of the statement.

The planetary layer uses calculated tropical longitudes and the five conventional major aspects; it does not invent houses or angles without geographic coordinates. Three numerology features are Calcabala’s own construction: the Composite Life Path, the bridge, and the four phase names. The bridge is a distance between positions, not a derived number — it can never be 9, 11 or 22.

The two charts

Five numerology points each: two the birth date gives, three the name gives. The planetary section is calculated independently from the dates.

Life Path
The whole birth date, reduced — the arc a life tends to follow.
Birthday
The day of the month on its own — a talent that shows up early and stays.
Name Number
Every letter of the name — how this person meets the world.
Soul Urge
The vowels — what the heart quietly wants.
Personality
The consonants — the face other people see first.

The numerology aspect grid

Each of the first person’s five points against each of the second person’s. Read a row across to see how one number meets everything the other chart carries; read a column down for the reverse. The diagonal — the same point on both sides — is the mirror axis.

The five aspects where the same point meets its counterpart — Life Path to Life Path, Soul Urge to Soul Urge. Like against like, and the only place the grid asks how similar the two of you are rather than how you fit together.

Cycle phase

This distance never changes. A Personal Year is the birth month plus the birth day plus the digits of the calendar year, so both charts take the same year term and the gap between their positions holds for life. What moves is only which numbers land where — a master year arriving on one chart and not the other.

How the number reading was created

Every aspect in the numerology grid is a pair of numbers already calculated from a name and a birth date, passed through Calcabala’s affinity table. Nothing is randomly chosen: the same two charts in the same system always produce this exact number reading. The planetary aspects above are a separate calculation from zodiac longitude.

Questions to sit with

  • The mirror axis says how alike you are; the cross aspects say how you fit. Which of the two is this relationship actually running on?
  • Where the grid names a clash — is it a live tension, or something the two of you settled years ago and no longer notice?
  • If the cycles are out of phase, what does the person in the quieter year need that the busier one keeps forgetting to offer?
  • What did the grid miss entirely? Twenty-five aspects is a lot of numbers and still not a person.

What happens to what you type

Every calculation on this site runs in your browser. There is no account and no server that receives a name or a birth date. Shared links carry reading details after the # in the address, which browsers do not transmit to a server. Calcabala counts visits with Google Analytics only if you accept it — and it is given the page address with everything after the # removed, so a shared reading never reaches Google either. Decline or change your mind from “Cookies” at the foot of any page.

Common questions

What is synastry in numerology?

Synastry is a term borrowed from astrology, where two birth charts are compared point by point instead of being read one at a time. The numerological version does the same thing with numbers: each person’s name and birth date produce a small set of core numbers, and each of one person’s numbers is read against each of the other’s.

How is this different from the compatibility reading?

The compatibility reading uses names only and groups the result into six named dimensions. Synastry adds the birth date, which brings in the Life Path and the Birthday number, and shows the full grid rather than a summary — twenty-five aspects instead of six dimensions, plus the composite numbers and the cycle phase.

Do I need both birth dates?

Yes. Two of the five points in each chart come from the birth date, and the cycle phase cannot be calculated without both. If you only have names, use the compatibility reading instead.

Does a grid full of clashing aspects mean a bad relationship?

No. Calcabala does not produce a score, a percentage or a verdict, and nothing in this reading can tell you whether a relationship works. A clashing aspect names a place where two numbers are traditionally read as pulling in different directions — useful as a prompt, worthless as a prediction.

Is anything I type here sent anywhere?

No. Both names and both dates are calculated in your browser and never reach a server — not even the analytics, which only ever sees the page address without the part after the #. There are no accounts, and analytics cookies are set only if you accept them.

This reading describes symbolic patterns in two names and two birth dates, not two people, and it cannot tell you whether a relationship will work. Use it to start a conversation, not to settle one.
